Veteran Initiatives
60 Minutes a Day. 30 Days. One Mission.
It’s simple: move for 60 minutes a day for 30 days. Walk, run, lift, ruck, cycle, stretch, or train however you choose.
The 3030for30 Challenge is about showing up every day, building consistency, and using that commitment to make an impact for veterans.
30 out. 30 in. Or just get moving for 60. How you do it is up to you.
Jose's Story
WHERE IT STARTED
Jose’s connection to surfing began long before Team USA. His dad, Forrest Weinberg, a Marine veteran, introduced him to the water when he was four years old.
What started as time together in the ocean became something Jose would carry with him through everything that followed. Today, surfing still gives him something few other things can: the need to be completely present.

“My dad got me into surfing when I was four years old, and it’s been part of me ever since. There’s a calm that comes over me out in the water because surfing forces you to be completely present. Reading a wave and moving the board exactly how it needs to move in that moment; adjusting your weight, your angle, your feet; compressing, decompressing; extending a leg, bending a leg; the gaze of your eyes, your arms, your shoulders, your whole body, just to work with what the ocean’s giving you. There’s no room to think about anything else when you’re out there, and that feeling is a huge part of why I love surfing as much now as I did when I was a kid.”
— Jose Martinez
Why It Matters
Move With Purpose. Move for Team USA.
Jose Martinez knows what it means to fight for what comes next. After losing three limbs to an IED during his first deployment to Afghanistan, the Army veteran rebuilt his life around a sport that had been with him since childhood. He went on to become a gold medalist, two-time world tour champion and captain of Team USA’s para surf team. Now, he is chasing another goal: bringing home gold for Team USA.
Sarah Bettencourt knows something about rebuilding, too. The retired U.S. Marine Corps captain turned to adaptive surfing after a neurological disorder ended her military career. Today, she is a five-time world champion competing alongside Jose for Team USA.
3030for30 gives us a way to get behind them. For 30 days, every hour we log helps rally more people around Jose, Sarah and Team USA as they train, travel and compete on the world stage.
They’re putting in the work to represent our country. Let’s put in the work to support them.
